Kathryn Starkey - District 45 Protecting the taxpayersKathryn was appointed by both Governors Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist to help manage taxpayers’ funds as a member of the Pinellas - Anclote River Basin Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District. In this role, she helped reduce property taxes paid by local home and business owners.

Kathryn Starkey - District 45 Protecting our quality of life – When dozens of new billboards appeared practically over-night on Pasco roads and century-old trees were being destroyed, Kathryn persuaded the county to enact an ordinance aimed at preserving the green space along our roadways.

Kathryn Starkey - District 45 Improving our public schools – As a member of the Pasco County School Board, Kathryn has worked to cut fat out of the budget, redirect taxpayer funds to classrooms, improve career-oriented educational opportunities, and most importantly, improve educational outcomes for students. In a continuing effort for government transparency, Kathryn was the driving force in making the Pasco County School Board budget available on line.

Economic Development

Kathryn Starkey and Will Weatherford
Florida must focus attention and innovative ideas on our economic situation to maintain existing businesses and bring new businesses to our communities. We must encourage a positive and successful environment which welcomes economic growth and sustainability, offering jobs to our citizens, providing needed goods and services. In each of our unique communities we must understand the challenges and focus on fiscal responsibility and economic inspiration.

District 45, lying along Highway 54 in Pasco County, from River Ridge, Trinity and encompassing Holiday, Tarpon Springs, and along Alt. US 19 in Pinellas, including Dunedin and Ozona, is perfectly positioned for redevelopment and business expansion, increasing the likelihood of job creation. We must work at the legislative and local level to provide for this expansion by enhancing financial incentives for business and removing barriers to the permitting and approval process.

Education

Kathryn Starkey
Florida’s education system must be developed to provide a world class education for our students. Our students are the future leaders of our State, the Nation and the World. We must give them the knowledge and skills to succeed and advance ahead of all others. Whether we are sending graduates to top colleges or training skilled labor for the business workforce in the State of Florida, our students deserve the best education available. We have an ongoing obligation to maximize success and minimize waste in our education system.

Environment

Florida’s unique environmental challenges require constant attention from all of us. We must maintain land for our wildlife, recreational pursuits and enjoyment of our citizens and visitors. Our economy and our future depend on sustaining a healthy environment.

As we encourage business expansion and redevelopment we must remain sensitive to quality of life issues related to our environment and the protection of our valuable water resources. District 45 contains several critical land preservation linkages and provides many opportunities for eco-tourism and life style enhancements including trails, parks, beaches, and boating.  Through intelligent planning and intergovernmental cooperation that shares costs and reduces waste, our region can experience sustainable development and lifestyle enhancements that will benefit all.
